ABOUT CONTINUO
CONTINUO is an international independent theatre group led by Pavel Štourač, its artistic leader. Since 1995 the company has been settled in Malovice, a little village in South Bohemia (25 km far from České Budějovice) in a former farmstead, called Plum Yard. In its work, Continuo combines physical theatre with puppetry techniques, live music, and distinctive visual stylization. Since 1997, the company has been intensively involved in site-specific projects staged in non-theatrical spaces. In more than 30 years of its existence, the ensemble has created over sixty productions and nearly 30 site-specific projects.
SITE-SPECIFIC HOTEL FATIGUE – BASIC INFORMATION
The basic idea behind Continuo’s site-specific projects is to bring together theater professionals and artists of various approaches and professions from different countries to collaborate on a joint project. This year, the project will take the form of a site-specific and immersive theater production, which will be prepared and then performed 14 times in the abandoned building of the former hotel complex Blanice in Týn nad Vltavou. The entire project is part of the European Capital of Culture České Budějovice 2028.
THEME AND CREATIVE PROCESS
The production will be based on real stories connected with the project location—the former hotel complex, its past and present, including testimonies that we might call “stories from the margins.” The life experiences of seniors, immigrants, socially or health-disadvantaged people, members of various minorities, abandoned or homeless people. Stories that are invisible, unwanted, overlooked, and suppressed will find their place at Hotel Fatigue. Under the guidance of the Continuo artistic team, the participants will transform the material gathered in the research into a theatrical immersive performance that will take place in the rooms, corridors, and other spaces of the large hotel complex.
Alongside professional artists participating in the project, members of the above-mentioned communities from Týn nad Vltavou and the surrounding area (many of whom have no previous artistic, theatrical, or acting experience) will also cooperate in the creation of the production. The whole creative process will be led by members of the Continuo Theatre team directed by Pavel Štourač.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
We are interested in collaborating with artists who are drawn to the theme of the project, who are enthusiastic, and persistent, and who are willing to work intensively and contribute their artistic visions to the project. We are looking for artists who are interested in collective creation, who have a desire to discover new creative possibilities, to offer, to learn, to try, to fail, and to try again. Due to the high demanding nature of the work in the project, a good physical and mental state of the participant is required. Participation is required for the whole duration of the project. A good knowledge of English, which will be the main working language, is required.
FINANCIAL CONDITIONS
For participants selected through an open call, Continuo will cover travel expenses to Malovice and back up to a maximum of €200, local transport, accommodation, and meals (three meals a day) for the duration of the project.
APPLICATION
Participants of the project will be selected on the basis of their application, CV, motivation letter, a short video in which the participant briefly introduces themselves (all of the above materials must be submitted in English), and video documentation of their previous artistic work.
