Finis Terrae Second Journey

The parable of the two paths: masculine and feminine, external and internal.

An island in the middle of the world. An image of an orphaned female soul in the shadow of magnificent male journeys.

She is humble, quiet, furious, wild, passionate, loving and embracing, raging and destructive.

A parable of two paths: male and female, external and internal.

Men wander through distant lands to achieve their dream ideal. Meanwhile, women dream of their journeys, of the places they pass through. They undertake an invisible journey within themselves. And their dreams, their hidden journeys, are perhaps more colorful and true than the visible ones.

Movement and visual theater, a montage of historical texts, movement, live music, rhythm, and visual poetry.

Finis Terrae, second way follows on from the performance Finis Terrae (premiere: July 16, 2009, Blatná Castle, reruns: Nuremberg, Germany, and Cape Finisterre, Spain), which was realized as part of the Czech Presidency of the EU and which tells the story of a journey through Europe full of hope and longing. It is inspired by the historical expedition of Lev of Rožmitál, diplomat of the Czech king George of Poděbrady, which took place at the end of the 15th century. The aim of his journey between 1465 and 1467 was to present King George’s ideas concerning the Organization of Universal Peace, a peace partnership agreement between all Christians, and cooperation between European countries.

„The first version of the performance was played by five women and one man, this time we balanced the ratio to three to three. This brought relationships between men and women into the play. Three couples bring both conflict and harmony.“ (P. Štourač)
